Uber Passenger Killed in Denver Auto Accident

Posted by Jeremy Rosenthal | Mar 20, 2020 | 0 Comments

A Colorado man was killed when another vehicle hit the car he was traveling in during an Uber ride. The victim was a 52-year-old man who had ordered an Uber in his effort to get home safely from Mugsy's Bar in Denver at about 3 a.m.

After he got into his Uber, which was a Toyota Corolla, the vehicle started making its way southbound on the I-225. That's when a Jeep Cherokee approached the Corolla at a high rate of speed and crashed into the back of it, causing both vehicles to collide with the left wall of the highway. The Uber driver suffered minor injuries, while the passenger was killed.

Though the Jeep rolled, the driver of that vehicle was able to get out and run from the scene, making this a hit-and-run accident. The Colorado police are still looking for that driver, and they believe alcohol and excessive speed contributed to the cause of this deadly accident.

Uber's Role in Ridesharing Accidents

When you take an Uber home from the bar or a friend's house, you're making the responsible choice to ensure you get home safely, without injuring yourself or others on the road. Unfortunately, sometimes rideshare accidents still occur, and they can have tragic consequences.

If you've been in a Denver auto accident as an Uber passenger, you may be able to get the compensation you deserve from the ridesharing company. This could be the case even when the accident was not caused by the Uber driver but another driver on the road, such as in the news story above. Either way, you'll need money to pay for your medical bills and any lost wages as you heal from the car accident, and Uber may be legally responsible for this type of compensation.

Steps To Take After an Accident as an Uber Passenger

If you were injured as an Uber passenger, you should first report the accident. You need to report it to not only the police, but also to Uber, your insurance provider, and the Uber driver's insurance provider. It's important to cover all your bases this way so you start a paper trail, which is critical if you want a chance of getting compensation after a Denver ridesharing accident.

Keep in mind there is a statute of limitations for your injury claim when it comes to Uber accidents. It's the same as other car accident injury claims, which is three years. If you don't file within that time period, your case could be thrown out, giving you zero chance of getting compensation to help pay for any medical bills, lost income, or pain and suffering caused by the car accident. This could land you in debt after a Denver car accident that was not your fault at all.

To avoid this issue and have the opportunity to pursue the compensation you deserve, you need to contact a car accident lawyer soon after the accident. An experienced attorney in Denver can provide you with the legal guidance you need every step of the way. So contact a Colorado car accident attorney today to set up an initial consultation.
