Intoxicated Driver Arrested After Injury Accident in Colorado Springs

Posted by Jeremy Rosenthal | Apr 29, 2020 | 0 Comments

An intoxicated driver was arrested in Colorado Springs this week after causing a two-vehicle crash that injured three people. The 36-year-old man was driving north on Weber Street on Saturday afternoon when he ran a red light and hit a car on Uintah Street.

Three of the people involved in the accident were trapped in their car. Once they were extracted, they were taken to the hospital. One of the victims had serious injuries, and two had minor injuries.

The Colorado Springs Police noticed that the at-fault driver was intoxicated, so they arrested him and took him to the El Paso County Jail. He was charged with vehicular assault, plus additional charges related to causing an accident while intoxicated.

Intoxicated Driving in Denver

This Colorado car accident was caused by an intoxicated driver, which could mean many things. In some cases, it means the driver drank enough alcohol to get a blood alcohol content (BAC) of 0.08% or higher before driving. That would make this a Colorado drunk driving accident.

But in other cases, intoxicated driving refers to the driver having ingested prescription drugs, over-the-counter drugs, or illegal drugs—such as narcotics. Basically, if a driver has ingested any substances—legal or illegal—that could impair their driving enough to be dangerous to themselves or others, they could be charged with a DUI accident in Colorado. Not only would they face criminal penalties, but anyone they harm in the accident could pursue legal action to get compensation.

What To Do If You're a Victim of a DUI Crash in Colorado

If the driver who hit you was charged with DUI—whether for drugs or alcohol—you have a good chance of getting compensated so you can pay for any accident-related expenses. For example, if you were injured, you'll likely have to pay copays or coinsurance costs from the hospital, physical therapy, pharmacy, and any future medical care you'll need.

If you took time off work to recover from the collision, you're probably missing some of your income or had to use all your sick days through no fault of your own. And of course, if your car was damaged in the Denver auto accident, you'll have to pay for repairs or a new car.

But you shouldn't have to pay for all these expenses. The driver who was impaired enough to hit your car should be held liable, and he or she will be when you bring a claim against the insurance provider. Before you take this route, though, you should consider getting legal help from a Denver personal injury attorney who can guide you from start to finish.

After all, the goal of the insurance company is to get out of paying. This means it's rarely an easy path for DUI crash victims who just want the compensation they need to pay their accident-related bills. So if you want to ensure you have immediate help dealing with the insurance company that is supposed to provide your compensation, hire a lawyer. Contact a Denver personal injury attorney today to set up an initial consultation!
